TAREK OSMAN
FAITH SYSTEMS & IDENTITY POLITICS

Evening Salon / Thurs 3 Oct / 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Identity politics. Faith systems in modern societies. Islam. Author, broadcaster, and political counsellor Tarek Osman discusses the role of faith systems in today’s identity politics, and looks at ‘Islamism’ in particular in the experiences of Middle Eastern societies. Debated at large, this vague term almost prevents us from having meaningful discussions. Tarek sheds light on its manifold complexities and scans the long history of political Islam, from the Ottoman Empire to the recent developments across the Middle East, to help us make sense of the manifestation of faith in society and governance.
