Think of crime and punishment and you might believe that there is a straightforward relationship between the two.

But for leading Belgian thinker Peter Vermeersch, who recently sat on a jury in what appeared to be a straightforward case of robbery, things are not at all so black and white. In this talk he reflects on violence and the true value of punishment and justice in our time, and discusses whether there are better forms of justice and fairer laws to address violence and wrongdoing.
